How to animate in Xbox Ui
I saw the other thread on this and he figured it out but didn't post how, sorry if I should have posted this in the same thread.

I am not sure how to animate and if someone can give me a quick walkthrough on how to do it I'd be very grateful!

RE: How to animate in Xbox Ui
It works just like any other timeline based animation program.

Basically you have frames, and if you create key frames on one frame and another..and change the behaviors from each from..it will animate it.

So for instance if you have an image we will call it image1..and you want to move it.

First click image1 in the item list. Then to the right of it in the timeline pick a starting frame, right click it and insert key frame.

Now depending on the animation you want and how fast..you now move to the right several frames..the more frames the slower the animation. For the sake of tutorial I will just say go to frame 200. Right click it and choose insert key frame. Then while this frame is selected..move your item where you want it to move (or you could say change the opacity..etc)

That should do it..

Thanks, now at the risk of sounding extremely noobish(which to the UI Tool I am)

Does it work basically the same way to make it animate when navigating from one tab to another?

Yeah it does..but you have to also have named frames when using tabs.. (if you look in the default skin you'll see the tabs and the named frames like 2to3 2to3end 3to4 3to4end etc..

Those are the sections where it animates from one tab to another..and you do the animations like i said before..

It's pretty nuts but the more you mess with it the more you get it..

Good luck though its touch using the default skin as its hard to use as a base for skinning.

Chee5y's Tranquility is a much better base skin..but since RC1 there are no options to use except the default..or start from scratch.. :\

Thanks for the help, I'm starting from scratch on this one. It may or may not work, not sure yet, but I'm gonna give it a go. The trick is finding time to mess with it when no body is messing with me, Icon_smile

I know how that is..I have 3 daughters and a wife.. lol.

If you have questions feel free to ask me..although the new FSD has some new stuff I don't know about yet...which is why I've yet to start skinning :\

Alright, I've done the animation bit, and it is "animated" if I scroll the timeline, but when previewing it doesn't animate for me. Mind if I send you the xui and you take a look at it? Tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Yah..you can send it. You probably don't have it in a section that animates.. for instance if you are trying to make something animate when you first load it up..it has to be set to named frames section like "TransTo"

Or if you want an animation that can play continously on any scene you might have to create an animation in the database (skin.xui) and then put it in your scene.

Feel free to email it or whatever though and I can look Icon_smile newyears1978 at yahoo.com
