OK in this tutorial i will be learning you how to extract the images from a xbox360 theme.

First thing first : APPLICATIONS

You will need a application that will read your xbox HDD or configured usb device.

Xstaffs usb reader:

Xplorer360:

you will now need another tool to extract the images from the pirs archive.

wxTheme:
available here: http://gael360.free.fr/wxTheme.php

STEP 1 :

I my self at this point format my usb device then put it in the xbox and configure device to do this :

Insert usb device in to your xbox navigate your dash menu to "SYSTEM" then scroll down to "MEMORY".

Select "MEMORY" and select your usb device , now select "CONFIGURE NOW" and wait for your xbox to configure it.

Once configured go back to the storage device screen and copy 1 theme and 1 gamers picture from your xbox HDD
to your new configured usb device , this will make it easier to put things back in the correct directory.

STEP 2 :

You should have already downloaded or have the applications above , if not get to it
If you have then go ahead and pop your configured usb device into your PC/laptop and close the window that appears.

So we now need to load up "Xstaffs usb reader".
Once open click "File" top left and open your configured usb device.

Your xbox 360 themes are located in :

Content\0000000000000000\FFFE07D1\00030000\

NOTE : You must expand content folder in order for 0000000000000000 to appear and so on ......

Now you have located 00030000 and its content (your themes) use the extraction tool in xstaffs usb reader
to extract the themes to your desktop , to do this :

Highlight the theme you wish to extract , right click it and select extract , decide where to save file to.

STEP 3 :

At this point we should of extracted at least one theme from your xbox to your desktop , and now all
you have to do is open wxTheme drag the xbox theme over to the open window of wxTheme and hit extract.
Again select where you wish to save the files to.

Open the theme files and you can extract all the files with file/extract to its own directory.

The theme files i have looked at so far have 4 or 5 files

Rename them by adding .png to the end of the file name :

wallpaper1.png
wallpaper2.png
wallpaper3.png
wallpaper4.png

Just add ".png"

Be warned this will change the extension of the file

And thats how you extract images from a xbox360 theme , what you do with them now is up to you.

Probably a dumb question but, is there anyway to repack the images into the file they were extracted from? Say I extract the images and edit to my liking or change completely, can I then repack or reinsert them into the original file? Not sure if this is correct place to ask this but how can I change the icon for a custom theme I have created (Just started making my own themes with Modio) any help will be welcomed

There is no need to re-pack them into the original file and don't think there is a way. You can change the icon easily if you follow my guide to making themes. http://spiffy360.com/forum/thread-456.html
